Feedback Devlog #4
Hey everyone just wanted to make a quick devlog dissecting feedback I received awhile ago and how I responded to it. However before I do that I just want to say some may have noticed that I finally uploaded a build of the game. I felt that I added enough features and that the game was ready for people to see for themselves. Whilst it's not the most stable build I can imagine it's exciting just to get a glimpse of the game, however once I have some more time I will post a better version. One last thing if you have any feedback or have any suggestions please just post below. Now onto the feedback!
Feedback
First things first this is what people had to say about Dream Drop:
- Timestop ability can be abused
- Add death counter
- Move the Timestop bar closer to the player
- When the player dies you should be able to retry with a press of a button
- Change the movement
Exploit
One player realised that they could spam the Timestop ability with no real downfall, so for instance he would constantly press the button and he would slowly descend which allowed more time to react to obstacles. The problem was the bar recharged the little of amount that was used when you used the ability because it was constantly switching between on and off.
To fix this I have made multiple changes including:
- Bar doesn't recharge as quickly so if you try this technique you'll eventually deplete the bar
- Implemented a short cool down on the ability
One of other way I will discourage this type of play is reward players who complete the level in a shorter time.
Death Counter
I thought this was a great suggestion, so I have implemented this feature. It's great to look back at how many times you died just trying to beat one level. It could also be highlighted and fun to compare with friends on some sort of high score system.
Timestop bar placement
I am still torn on this piece of feedback while I respect the difference of opinion I am still unsure where to exactly place the bar, so i think I will sort this out on a later date maybe after even more feedback.
Retry with a press of a button
This was immediately frustrating for the player for whenever they died they had to manually click the button with the mouse and because the game is quite difficult they were dying a lot so this was a regular occurrence. Such a simple thing to overlook, but I have since implemented that when you die you can just press the space bar to retry the level once you die.
Movement tweaking
They told me the movement was okay it just needed tweaking, they suggested that when you hold down a certain direction it should speed up or if you tap the button it should move ever slightly. The problem was my movement was just a static number and didn't register different types of button presses, as aforementioned tapping or holding. I have since tried changing the movement with these In mind, but I am still not happy how the movement feels, however It is a iterative process so I will keep trying until it feels right.
That pretty much wraps up my feedback, but as I said I'll probably get some additional feedback soon. Thanks again for reading, I'll catch you in the next one!
Cheers,
Ed
